Tangelo Tree Jewellery Releases Debut Collection

A fresh and vibrant new brand of contemporary handmade jewllery that focuses on conscious design is now available. New Zealand based Tangelo Tree is born out of a love of visual arts, a passion for textiles/fashion and an obsession with jewellery.

Compulsive designer/maker Christine Cook is the face behind the Tangelo Tree brand. A graphic designer by trade, Cook's aim is to create timeless art pieces that will stand out from the crowd, bring individuality to the wearer & prehaps even transport them to exotic destinations such as the one where they were created. Since studying a diploma in Textiles & Fashion and a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts, Cook has worked as a textiles technician, clothing designer, printmaker, art museum assistant and graphic artist. A fascination with handcrafted objects and a strong desire to create has led her to combine all disciplines and embark on jewellery design.

The collection's elegant tribal glamour has a contemporary feel, designs are characterised by Cook's use of vibrant colour and strong geometric pattern. Gleaming metal accents are woven throughout the pieces and imbue the collection with an exotic charm. Thoughtful & conscious design plus a graphic designer's meticulous attention to detail is evident in each piece. Unexpected clashes of colour draw the audience in for a closer inspection at which point they are both suprised and intrigued by the delicate detail. Organic and gemoertic forms, a delicately chosen colour palette, and high quality materials combine to form picecs of art to wear!

In a culture of mass produced goods, Cook is passionate about handmade enterprises and creates her own limited edition pieces from concept through to completion believing that this process helps to form a closer connetion between the artist and the wearer. She says, "I love the idea that consumers can become completely aware of the full creative process from concept development through to production."

Cook works from her home studio in idyllic surroundings near the east coast of New Zealand. She explains, "I am very priveliged to be in a postion where I can work slowly. Slow designing enables me the time and space required to make conscious design decisions." It is clear that this way of life and work combined with the artist's multi disciplinary approach to design is what makes Tangelo Tree Jewellery stand out from the crowds.
